By a fundamental reform, the traditional discipline-oriented medical curriculum (“Rigorosenstudium”) was transformed into a modern, modular and theme-centered diploma curriculum. The article provides an overview over the whole process of this change – from the initiation to planning and to the eventually successful implementation. The focus lies on the numerous obstacles against such a profound reform as well as on the major success factors of necessary change management to overcome these – more or less expectable – problems.
