The interlocking demands of professional practice and scientific character are fundamental to the basic conception of continuing education courses in universities. While professional practice occupational principles (“Beruflichkeit“), employability and the in clusion of empirical knowledge are inherent in teaching and learning concepts, the scientific character demands discipline-specific knowledge, theories, and methodological research approaches. The article outlines this interlocking using the example of a development project of a Master of Public Management Social Insurance at the University of Applied Sciences of the German Social Accident Insurance (HGU).
